The theme of this day was to find my way back to Philadelphia to visit Leah again before leaving the East Coast. There was some interstate highway involved, retracing my steps on I-287 and I-78 to avoid NYC, but the rest were the interesting secondary roads I hope for.
It is curious to me that, while the last 15 miles of yesterday’s ride on Hwy 9W south would best be described as an ordeal, the first 20 miles of today’s ride, also on Hwy 9W south, couldn’t have been more pleasant. I haven’t figured out how, from looking at a map, to predict which roads will be agreeable to my tastes.

Good strategy to make a loop into the New England states from/to Philadelphia, Mike. Glad you are encountering good fall weather back there, and beautiful scenes to match. I am enjoying your thoughtful narratives, too. By now you must have filled in all the northern states on your USA map.
