This was a day with Leah and walking around Philadelphia in good weather. While Leah was at work I worked on the blog in the morning and walked around town in the afternoon. I think I visited and photographed every tourist attraction in the city, some twice, so lots of pictures of Philadelphia.
This is one of many statues of George Washington in Philadelphia. Behind is the Philadelphia Museum of Art, with its famous “Rocky Steps.” The steps and near-by statue of Sylvester Stallone get a lot more attention than George Washington. Two bits of trivia: 1.) Sylvester Stallone never personally ran up the steps, that work was done by his double; and 2.) The movie studio offered the Rocky statue to the city, to be placed at the top of the steps. The city declined, saying it was a movie prop, not art. The compromise was to place the statue at street level and off to the side.
Break dancers taking turns videoing each other at the top of the steps. To me, they were more impressive than Rocky.
I stopped in during a wedding at the Basilica of Saint Peter and Paul.
Nice photo of Leah & Mike. I can appreciate the brick/rock/mortar wall on the hill and the pedestrian path/iron railing with the arches going down to the outdoor courtyard. The multi-tiered sinks & connected plumbing in that utility room is interesting (?). Good that you are seeing all the attractions while you can. Thank you.
Nice shots!
I never thought about going to Philadelphia before – but after seeing all of your pictures I would like to go myself – especially if Leah is there.
Very nice Mike. A daughter in Philly had to be a factor in the gravitational pull that brought your Vespa clear across the continent.
