Last night I stayed at the Gros Vente Campgrounds at Kelly, Wyoming. It got cold. Piece by piece I sequentially added all of my available weaponry to stay warm…long underwear, coats and clothing laid over the sleeping bag as covers, the reflective survival blanket, and finally closing the mummy aspect of the sleeping bag over my head so only my face was exposed. This last part was a step-wise process as nothing strikes fear into the mind of a claustrophobic like a mummy bag. I stayed comfortably warm, but it took frequent monitoring and adjustment to keep the pieces in place. Now aren’t you glad you know that?
The ride through Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks was direct from Kelly to Cody except for a side trip to Old Faithful. I’ve been to both places a couple of times each, and although I would enjoy seeing them again, I have other agendas for this trip and only so much time (need to meet Wife Marion and Daughter Leah in Minnesota and Philadelphia on specific dates). Plus I was unsure of lodging in Cody and didn’t want to get into town too late. Good thing. The hotels were almost fully booked and I had to scramble to find something.
Here are some Grand Teton and Yellowstone pictures with comments as appropriate. It’s late and time for bed.
From Colby Walmart, new parts for my kit, plus a new gas can
Brings back memories. First time I saw the Tetons was after high school graduation. My sisters and I went cross country for 3 months in a VW Bug. We were 18, 17, and 12. No kidding – no parents – no tent – no stove – just sleeping under the stars. That was our graduation gift from our parents (freedom, trust, and learning about ourselves and our country). The Grand Tetons reflecting in Jenny Lake… Thanks Mike for the gift of your photos and “journal”. FRO
Great photos. Enjoy traveling. Beef jerky and almonds… what a combo for a tooth breaker. I can’t wait to hear your stories when you get back.
