Oct 14: Williamsburg, VA to Appomattox, VA

First a stat, for those that like that kind of thing.  At the point I left Philadelphia the second time, which could be thought of as the start of the way back, the scooter had traveled 5,524 miles on the trip.  I expect there will not be as many miles on the return trip.

This day was about me being focused on any little hiccup from the repaired engine.  For the first two hours I was on secondary roads and very tenuous about putting much of a load on the engine, didn’t want any bad news.  But near Richmond I needed to get on  I-295 South, was sharing the interstate with big rigs, and had no choice but to roll on the throttle.  No objections from the little scooter that could.  That didn’t stop me from being apprehensive about it.  I think only with time will I become comfortable that the problem is gone.

I didn’t realize Appomattox was on my path, but when I saw the announcement for it on the road I decided it would be a good place to explore and spend the night.  I found a bed and breakfast place with room available, had dinner at Grandma Bee’s (I was the only non-local there), walked around town for a while, then went back to the B&B to blog till sleep.

This day continued my fascination with soy beans and churches.

What a well appointed and cozy room you had. I like your reflexion in the mirror, I have read a lot about Appomattox and the civil war. I’m looking forward to hearing more about your impressions.
