The desert isn’t as useless as it might first appear. For one thing it prompts us to think. Being enveloped in an environment so dramatically different than our typical is an opportunity for perspective on our lives. Yesterday’s ride through the desert was therapeutic. It was a chance to mentally reinforce what I value and discard what is clutter. I hope for more rides like that.
Bob and I have different riding styles so we rode separately from Fallon to Rome. It’s agreeable. He rides faster with fewer stops. I make lots of U-turns. Here are some pictures of places I went and things I saw, with no particular meaning.
It is interesting to see how different deserts can
be from one another. Your pictures take us along.
hey dad glad to see the trip is going well and you made it through Nevada alright. looking forward to seeing pictures of Yellowstone!
Compared to my little wanderings in central Pennsylvania your ride seems epic. The size and sweep of the landscapes through which you travel are unlike anything seen from the back of my Vespa.
I’m curious if the roads are as empty as they appear in your pictures? You seem like you’re a long way from anywhere in some.
I look forward to following along on your journey. Good luck and ride safe.

The pictures and commentary are most enjoyable.
Thanks for putting this website together and sharing the journey.
It is really interesting.
What is your typical cruising speed on the highways?
Do you get passed by others very much?
Are all of the pictures taken with the same camera?
Did you take a compact camera too?
What kind of camera(s) are they?
If you get a chance I would like to see a picture of Bob Clem and his bike.
For some reason I didn’t get the email that you had posted this update. I wasn’t sure how often you would be writing on your blog – but I was pleasantly surprised to see another post. I had no idea you were going to head north to Oregon. I thought you were cutting across the middle. I couldn’t tell if you added Oregon to your USA map yet. Tell me what road you were on to de-clutter your mind. I need to take that drive!
Happy trails to you.
No need for me to document my first two days on the road when you’ve done it better than I could for me! Hope your subsequent traveling is going well. Will follow you via this blog. I just finished my 6 days riding with mostly great roads, a good mix of slow/curvy and faster/straighter ones. I am ready for more.
