Oct 1 thru Oct 3: Philadelphia

In Philadelphia I joined Marion, who had arrived previously by airplane, to visit Daughter Leah and Good Friend Brian.  Also visiting Philadelphia during these exact same three days was Hurricane Joaquin.  The hurricane passed by out in the Atlantic and didn’t actually hit land, but its wind and rain dominated the local weather (see my Philadelphia companions trying to stay warm above).

Marion and I stayed at an AirBnB a couple of blocks from Leah’s home.  The weather didn’t interfere with our personal time and activities together…lots of history, sightseeing bus rides, and eating.  After the first night the scooter stayed in a nearby parking garage.

As usual, I cringe thinking about the pictures I didn’t take, but here are some that I did.

The public arts program, which includes lots of murals, is evident throughout the city.

I don’t know what pictures you didn’t take, but these are all wonderful and gives me a street level view of Philadelphia, which I have not seen before. Philadelphia and its art looks good in the rain.

  2. Again you have found some great photos. You have a knack especially for people, whose natural expressions can be difficult to capture when they know there’s a camera pointed at them. The city has a lot of billboard-size public art, only possible with enlightened and open-minded city officials and public. Hooray for them! Enjoy your break from the travel routine, that weather looks like a good time to have one.

Wow, thanks for the beautiful photos. I’m sure you had to pass up many, just to keep making progress, but what you got is wonderful. Brings the different areas of the country to our awareness. Glad you’re still safe & sound. Also glad the hurricane passed you by. Wish you could have been in the family photo, but often the cameraman is missing.
Take care and keep the rubber on the road.
    Warmly, Susan

Did you try a home made Philly cheesesteak sandwich? So, hopefully hurricane Joaquin will disappear in time when you move on with your journey so that it doesn’t interfere with your travel back to CA. Too bad for the folks in Columbia South Carolina.
    Thanks for the updates.

Philadelphia with all those murals does appear to be the City of Brotherly Love – as they say.

Wonderful fall colors. Looks like normal fall weather across the north. So glad no snow yet. Hopefully you will be ib the south befor it comes.

  7. I fully understand being dazed. YOU CROSSED THE COUNTRY ON A VESPA!!!! I know I would be dazed for sure.

It’s neat to be coming to your story late, because I can just keep reading 🙂
